2016 on the farm ...

Last year was an amazing year. Hectic? Yes; but it felt like we really turned a corner and reached a lot of new customers. We are looking forward to more of the same in 2016, and can't wait to get back at it in the spring!

A few changes for the coming year ...

Firstly, the website. As you may have noticed we switched website providers. Our new website will actually track inventory, which should keep me from making those embarrassing 'sorry, but that's actually sold out' mistakes. (Unfortunately there are a lot of other mistakes I make that it can't fix!)

The second thing that you will notice is that we want to focus more on pre-orders. A significant challenge we face is knowing how much to grow each year. Starting this year we will encourage people to pre-order pork cuts, bacon and sausage, as well as chicken. We still hope to have product available for 'spur-of-the-moment' customers, but the best way to make sure you get exactly what you want will be to pre-order.

On the farm, we will not be adding anything new this year, but will try and get better at what we do grow. As always our focus will be on making sure our critters have the best life possible here on the farm.

After reviewing our costs for last year there are a few 'tweaks' we are making around pricing for 2016. Beef will go up by about 10%, but is still significantly lower than the grocery store price. Pork cuts, sausage and bacon will stay the same but the price for a side of pork will go up by about $0.50 a pound. Chicken and turkey prices will stay the same, however we will need to start charging by the pound rather than 'by the bird' for chicken. (Last year we pre-sold 6-7 lb chickens for $20, but grew them to 8lb to try and make sure nobody got a small bird.)

So ... thanks to everyone for such a great 2015, and here's to a healthy and prosperous 2016!
